Born in 2003 in Kerala, India, Adarsa Raj M is a passionate poet whose writings bridge the personal and the political. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Farook College, Kerala, she pursued a Master’s in Rural Development and Governance at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad. An active participant in the Kerala and Telangana Sociological Societies, Adarsa combines her academic depth with creative expression, writing in both Malayalam and English.

Her poetic journey began at the tender age of six, deeply influenced by her maternal grandparents. The passing of her grandfather during her childhood left an indelible mark, instilling in her both solitude and a determination to translate emotions into poetry. What began as an intimate coping mechanism soon evolved into a lifelong pursuit of artistic expression.

During her teenage years, her writings transitioned into English, inspired by Shakespeare’s sonnets and Robert Frost’s free verse. Her themes stretched beyond love and despair to encompass socio-political issues, reflecting her growing awareness of injustice and her support for women’s literature and marginalized voices.

While studying Sociology, she began crafting what would become her debut collection, Love, Melancholy and My Socrates. The work explores emotional dilemmas, reflections on the Palestinian struggle, Dalit resistance in India, and the philosophical dialogue between “Pandora,” a vulnerable young woman, and “Socrates,” her imagined ideal of wisdom. Published during her postgraduate studies with BookLeaf Publishing, the book was not backed by sponsorships or family resources—instead, Adarsa used her summer internship stipend to fund its publication. This independent step resonates with aspiring writers who dream of publishing on their own terms, proving that passion and persistence can overcome limitations. The collection later earned her the Best Debut Poetry Award from RTA Media.

For Adarsa, poetry is not merely an art form but a way of making sense of loneliness, resisting silence, and amplifying unheard voices. What began as a child’s refuge has blossomed into a commitment to truth, empathy, and expression—marking her as a young yet profound voice in contemporary literature.
