June 20, 2025 — Air India has announced the cancellation of eight scheduled flights as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance aircraft maintenance and ensure operational safety. The move, though temporary, is part of a broader strategy to improve the airline’s fleet reliability and service standards.
According to an official statement released by the airline on Thursday, the cancellations are due to a scheduled maintenance overhaul being carried out on select aircraft. The airline emphasized that safety and performance remain its top priorities, and the cancellations are a precautionary measure to avoid technical delays or in-flight disruptions.
List of Cancelled Flights:
- AI 101 – Delhi to New York (JFK)
- AI 102 – New York (JFK) to Delhi
- AI 305 – Delhi to Mumbai
- AI 306 – Mumbai to Delhi
- AI 409 – Chennai to Delhi
- AI 410 – Delhi to Chennai
- AI 781 – Kolkata to Mumbai
- AI 782 – Mumbai to Kolkata
Passengers who were scheduled to travel on these flights have been informed via email and SMS. Air India has assured affected travelers that full refunds, alternate travel arrangements, or rescheduling options will be provided at no extra cost.
A senior Air India spokesperson said, “These cancellations are a part of our commitment to deliver safe and efficient air travel. While we regret the inconvenience caused, the maintenance work is crucial to ensure the long-term reliability of our operations.”
The spokesperson added that the airline is working closely with its ground staff and technical teams to minimize the impact on passenger schedules and expects regular operations to resume shortly.
Industry experts note that while such cancellations may cause short-term disruptions, they reflect positively on an airline’s safety culture. “It’s better to ground aircraft preemptively for checks rather than risking mid-air failures or last-minute delays,” said aviation analyst Rajiv Mehra.
The cancellations come at a time when Air India is undergoing a major transformation under the Tata Group, which has been focusing on upgrading its fleet, improving customer service, and modernizing its operations. In recent months, the airline has also been investing in new aircraft and technology to improve efficiency and passenger experience.
Passengers are advised to check their flight status on the official Air India website or contact customer service for assistance. The airline has set up a dedicated helpline to handle inquiries related to these cancellations.
As Air India continues to revamp its operations, such measures, though inconvenient, are seen as necessary steps toward building a more reliable and modern national carrier.
