New Delhi, August 11, 2025 – A high-stakes confrontation between India’s opposition INDIA bloc and government authorities erupted today in the capital. As opposition MPs marched from the Parliament building toward the Election Commission headquarters to protest the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and alleged voter fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, law enforcement intervened.
The march, viewed by opposition leaders as a plea for transparency in electoral processes, quickly escalated. Prominent figures—including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Sharad Pawar—were intercepted by Delhi Police en route to Nirvachan Sadan and detained for their actions.
Tensions intensified when Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav leapt over police barricades in a dramatic show of defiance. Among those detained near Transport Bhavan were Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, and TMC leader Sagarika Ghose.
The protest was sparked by concerns over the SIR process in Bihar, which the opposition alleges was manipulated to undermine fair electoral competition. The march was organized without police permission—a detail noted by authorities and contributing to the confrontation.
